Black Sunflower Seeds, sometimes called black oil seeds, They are thin-skinned so easy to open, and packed with oil and protein. Often used as alternative to peanuts and will provide wild birds in your garden with a high energy diet.

Black sunflower seeds contain over 25% protein and 40% unsaturated oils. When eaten they provide energy and help provide that essential waterproofing that  birds excrete from their oil glands. They spread this oil over their feathers to keep them waterproof so they stay dry and warm.

Black sunflower seeds are a great food source for a large number of our garden visitors, finches and tits in particular.

The only drawback from Black Sunflower Seeds are the Husks but well worth the effort.
